Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Khan has said the Ministerial meeting of Non Aligned Movement (NAM) would focus on promoting multilateralism besides other matters.
In a telephonic interview with local television he said that it had been an established stance of Pakistan that United Nations (UN) should work for the promotion of multilateralism on which NAM was also stressing.
He said the UN Security Council should not only be given a central role but should be made symbol of co-operative multilateralism.
Masood said the central topic of ongoing ministerial fleeting of the forum was that how to strengthen multilateralism in the 21st century.
He said that in the post cold war and 9/11 scenario trends of unilateral steps had increased in international politics, which should be discouraged. To a question he said NAM had always been supportive of the nations' right to self determination and had been playing its role.
The ongoing meeting would also discuss regional as well as global issues in this regard, he said.
He said the Palestinian issue was on top of the list while situation in Iraq and Afghanistan would also be considered by the forum.
