US MIDDAY: coffee firmer on short positions

18 Aug, 2004

NYBOT arabica coffee firmed on Tuesday as buyers covering their short positions helped the front contract extend the 5 percent gain posted in the previous session, traders said.
Yet the volume of short-covering was no match for Monday, they said.
Benchmark September coffee settled at 69.20 cents a lb, up 0.30 cent, after trading from 68.30 cents to 70 cents.
December coffee futures advanced 0.35 cent to 72.45 cents after moving in a range of 71.50 cents to 73.10 cents. The rest of the curve closed up 0.35 cent to 0.40 cent.
