The Japanese Ambassador Minoru Shibuya on Wednesday assured of extending their vital support and assistance to Pakistan in the key thrust areas of human resource development and nursing education.
The Japan may also extend assistance in training of teachers/faculty development, rural electrification by setting up windmills in the coastal areas of Balochistan and Sindh.
He stated this in a meeting with Science and Technology Ministry In-charge and Higher Education Commission Chairman Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rahman here on Wednesday.
Both sides discussed the matters of mutual interest, including higher education and science and technology.
The Japanese envoy emphasised the need for exploring the possibilities to establish common linkages programme between the two countries, saying the infrastructure is the key thrust area where investment should take place so as to develop Pakistan into a knowledge-based economy.
He also promised to review the restrictions imposed on the import of equipment to HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry which is an international centre of excellence for health research.
Dr Atta-ur-Rahman also embarked upon the idea of setting up a science town in Sector 1-12 having an area of 758 acres, where science and business incubators will be set up along with technology parks.
The primary objective of this programme is to -facilitate human resource development in Pakistan by allocating 1,500 scholarships to students, who are denied admission due to scarcity of resources, he added.
This programme is targeted towards bachelors and masters level students in the field of engineering, IT and telecommunications, agriculture, natural sciences, business/management studies, basic sciences and social sciences, Dr Atta added.
