The Sindh health department has issued notices to all unregistered blood banks operating across the province and that all unauthorised blood banks would be made to close down within one month's time.
This was stated by the Sindh CM's Advisor on health, Faisal Malik, while addressing a ceremony organised by Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority to recognise the contribution of voluntary blood donors of the country.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, Faisal Malik also mentioned that stringent measures are also being taken against unregistered and sub-standard pathological laboratories playing havoc with public health.
He reiterated that a congenial atmosphere has to be urgently created to raise the number of voluntary blood donors from 500 to 5,000, and that misconceptions about negative impact of blood donation on donors' health is also required to be eliminated.
He with a view to promoting a culture of voluntary donation asked the Sindh health secretary to particularly encourage provincial government employees, adding that he would also approach the authorities concerned of the federal government to take necessary steps for the very cause of safe blood.
