Miss Wilfriede, a Christian by birth and of German parentage, embraced Islam on marriage to a young Pakistani army Officer in the mid fifties and is ever since residing in Pakistan.
Mrs Colonel (Retd) Farida Sarwat is a practising Muslim lady but not given to any bigotries and actively concerned about the social well being of others.
She wrote the following, which I request to be published in your columns:-
Dear Jafri Bhai, AA.
As you keep writing letters to the editor may be you could also write on the matter of the very un-Islamic fashions they are showing on the fashion pages of most English newspapers especially on Sundays.
Why are ordinary folks subjected to these "wahayaat" fashions which only very few eccentric society girls dare to wear?
Haven't the average female citizens some right on the newspaper pages too? One would like to enjoy a few wearable fashions which the average women of this country could get some ideas from for their own wardrobe.
And how come they are allowed to print all that in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and no-one objects to this?!
It is really disgusting what we are subjected to especially in 'The News on Sunday' to mention one.
