Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Atta-ur-Rahman has directed to establish seven libraries in different sectors of the federal capital in the first phase of the Commission's Library Project.
The plots for these libraries were recently offered by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Kamran Lashari, in response to the HEC chairman's initiative.
The sectors of the federal capital where the libraries will be built under the Phase-I indicated by the CDA include Markaz-9, Markaz G-11, F-11, Sectors F-10/2, F-8/2, I-8/3, and I-8/4.
The decision to launch the project had been taken by Dr Atta to promote reading habits amongst the people as the first essential step towards improving the educational standard in the country.
Dr Atta has also requested the CDA chairman to provide sites for the libraries to be established in other sectors under Phase-II of the project, saying that efforts will be made to establish such libraries in every town of the country.
