The DNA samples were collected from the petitioner, mother of missing Mohammed Ali Khatri, and his two brothers and also some remains of the alleged suicide bomber, who exploded himself inside Imambargah Ali Raza, have been sent to DNA laboratory in Punjab to determine the identity of the bomber.
This was stated in a report submitted on Thursday before a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery by Additional Advocate General Sindh Sarwar Khan in a petition filed by Mst Gul Bano, mother of Mohammad Khatri, who went missing on 27-5-2004, the day when the alleged suicide claimed more than 20 lives inside Imambargah Ali Raza, Lines Area, Karachi.
According to the petitioner, his other son gave her the message of Mohammad Ali that he is going somewhere in connection with a work assigned to him by Qari Amanullah, Imam of a mosque in Lyari Town and alleged to be the mastermind behind the suicide bomb attacks.
On Thursday when the matter was taken up all concerned police officers and respondents in the petition were present before the court.
The court was informed that investigators believe that the missing person could be the son of the petitioner and therefore, the DNA test was arranged.
"The report is awaited and nothing can be said at this stage," the AAG stated.
The bench after perusing the report put off further hearing to a date to be fixed later directing the Inspector General Police (IGP) to submit a final report regarding the missing citizen by next date of hearing.
