Karamat will be new envoy to US: Kasuri

Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmud Kasuri has said that the former Chief of Army Staff General Jehangir Karamat (Retd) has been appointed new Pakistani Ambassador in the United States to replace Ashraf Jehangir Qazi who has been appointed United Nations Secretary Envoy to Iraq.
Kasuri told reporters in Islamabad on Saturday that the Pakistani government has informed the US government about the decision.
"We have sent Karamat's credentials to the US government," he said. Jehangir Karamat would take responsibility after approval by the US government.
Karamat was made army chief during Benazir Bhutto period. However, he resigned during Nawaz Sharif period when he issued a statement about the formation of National Security Council.
General Musharraf was appointed as Chief of Army Staff after his resignation.
