Punjab Livestock Department has chalked out a comprehensive plan for creating awareness among livestock and poultry growers to enable them to use modern techniques for getting maximum production.
Athar Tahir, Secretary Livestock Punjab told newsmen here on Friday that one of the biggest problems hindering the livestock and poultry growth was lack of proper information among farmers with regard to various animal diseases.
In a bid to update the knowledge of media men regarding livestock related issues, Livestock Department has decided to arrange a professional training workshop for them. Livestock experts will address the workshop, which will be held in Lahore Press Club in September 2004.
He said that the department had also set up a helpline for providing round the clock information to the livestock growers. In a bid to streamline research activities, the department had constituted three think tanks comprising 27 Ph.D officers of the department who would identify the areas of training and research.
He said that in order to enable the livestock sector to meet the challenges of World Trade Organisation (WTO), strategy was being evolved for increasing awareness among poultry growers.
To a question, he said that Punjab Chief Minister had approved a master plan for the development of livestock sector and this plan would be implemented through short, medium and long-term projects.
