23 Aug, 2004

Provincial Minister for Religious Affairs and Auqaf, Sahibzada Syed Saeedul Hassan Shah has urged the Ulema to play their role in highlighting the difference between terrorism and Jihad, to dispel wrong impression about Islam.
Talking to Maulana Abdul Rehman Ashrafi at Jamia Ashrafia here, he said Islam teaches respect for all irrespective of colour, creed and race. Islam preaches peace, amity, tolerance and brotherhood, he added.
Stating that Islam was against the killing of innocent persons, he said Ulema should play their role in distinguishing between Jehad and terrorism so that wrong impression about Islam could be dispelled at international level.
He said unfortunately in the west some elements were making efforts to equate terrorism with Jihad to defame Islam adding that in such circumstances religious scholars must realise their responsibility in promoting true teachings of Islam.
He said some vested interests at the behest of their alien masters were engaged in subversive activities to bring bad name to Islam and cause harm to the interests of the country.
