PPPP to launch protest drive against RCB

24 Aug, 2004

Member National Assembly and leader of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) Zamurad Khan said that his party had decided to launch a protest movement against the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) for its failure in construction of Misreal Road.
"This road is giving an outlook of the ancient era and more than 100,000 people were kept hostage by the authorities because of their inefficiency to renovate this road", Khan said while addressing a public meeting at Baraf Khana Chowk here. The rally was organised by PPPP to press the RCB to start work on the Misreal Road.
"Punjab Chief Minister has announced a huge amount for construction of this important road, even then the RCB is reluctant to start work on this project," Zamrud Khan said.
He said the people from all walks of life had been taken into confidence regarding the protest move; and a committee of 300 people had been formed to lead the campaign.
He said that Chohar - Misreal Road, Range Road and the streets on these two roads had been inundated during rainfall and people had to cross the streets in very high rainwater. RCB officials never have bothered to visit those areas and address the problems of the people, he added.
Zamurad Khan said that people had no option other than to come on to streets as the authorities had kept their eyes closed. "We will protest till the day they start work on Misreal Road and all broken streets will be renovated," he added.
