London white sugar futures closed mixed after a quiet session spent in a narrow range on Monday with the market dictated by New York, traders said.
October finished down $0.1 at $237.2 in volume of 1,393 lots, having moved between $236.1 and $238.5.
December settled down $0.5 at $245 in volume of 369 lots.
The session's total turnover was 2,365 lots.
Traders said news of a Libyan purchase of white sugar had been discussed in the market last week.
Libya's state-run National Company for Supply Commodities has bought 50,000 tonnes of white sugar as part of a delayed tender to purchase 100,000 tonnes, a senior company official said in Libya.
The official told Reuters the company was still negotiating with firms over the purchase of the remaining 50,000 tonnes.
