The recently formed Advisory Committee of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) has begun formulation of safety standards for the national nuclear installations and its opening meeting here on Tuesday examined the international standards made available to it.
This was the first meeting of the Committee on safety since its inception early this month. The second such committee is concerned with encouraging research and development of safety methods like development of corrosion resistant materials and ageing of metals.
PNRA officials said the first session of the Committee on Safety was devoted to a discussion on fundamental issues that are likely to affect the 'future of nuclear energy' with particular emphasis on radiation protection in the nuclear industry.
The Committee is to put forwards its views on draft international safety standards for incorporation of Pakistani viewpoint in those measures.
