Thousands of people including Nazimeen, councillors and government officials attended the funeral rites of five people of a family on Tuesday who died when a wall of a well fell on them in village Waliya Chaliya (Basira) some 50-km west of Multan on Monday afternoon.
"Abdul Majid (30), Muhammad Sharif (16), Mukhtar Ahmed (19), Abdul Razzaq (25), and Muhammad Yamin (20), were excavating the bricks from an old well. All of sudden, wall of the well fell on them, resultantly four persons Abdul Majid, Muhammad Yamin, Abdul Razzaq and Mukhtar Ahmed died on the spot and Muhammad Sharif was taken to Rural Health Centre Basira but staff was absent from duty. He died there.
EDO Health, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed has ordered an inquiry into the absence of medical staff from duty which caused a death of a patient. DPO Muzaffargarh, Ahsan Mehboob also reached at site and said that it was an accident but it is tragedy because four member of a family have died. Their bodies were taken to DHQ Hospital Muzaffargarh for post-mortem.
People of the area staged a demonstration on Tuesday against the medical staff of Rural Health Centre Basira and alleged that they had established their private clinics and they do not attend their duty. They had embezzled the funds received for the repair of ambulance and this vehicle is still unserviceable.
