Three-day anti-polio campaign began from Tuesday in all eight talukas of Hyderabad district. The Health Department has received task of immunising polio drops to 554220 children of under five years age in talukas of Hyderabad rural, Hyderabad City. Latifabad, Qasimabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Hala and Matiari.
The 3-day anti-polio campaign has become more important as the district of Hyderabad, which holding the status of polio free district since last two years had lost its position following the detection of a polio case, reported from Taluka Tando Mohammad Khan.
District Nazim Hyderabad, Dr Makhdoom Rafique Zaman while expressing concern over emerging of the polio case in Hyderabad district has already asked the concerned departments to block the polio virus by taking preventive measures at all entering points of the district so that in future no case of polio could be erupted in any part of the district.
About polio case reported in Tando Mohammed Khan District Nazim asked the officers concerned to carry out a detailed investigation with identification of the causes of the eruption of polio case.
He also called upon the general practitioners and paediatricians that if they found any case of APF, they should inform the Executive District Officer Health or Polio Eradication Committee with immediate
effect so that speedy prevention measures could be adopted by the district government.
The district Nazim also formed a committee headed by the EDO Health to guide and convince the general practitioners and paediatricians and to get their help in eradication of polio from the district.
He also asked the seeking of the services of school teachers, women workers and NGOs in order to create awareness among the masses about the benefits of anti-polio campaign.
He also called upon the taluka and union council Nazims and councillors to ensure the polio vaccination of all children of under-five years age.
He also directed the departments of Police, Revenues Social Welfare and Community Development to extend their full support during three-day anti-polio drive.
Meanwhile, eight sub-committees have already been set up in all talukas of Hyderabad district to monitor, accelerate and enhance the coverage of vaccination during anti-polio drive.
Executive District Officer Community Development Mohammed Ibrahim Qureshi has appointed the Deputy District Officer Social Welfare of Department all talukas of Hyderabad district as the heads of these sub-committee with one each representative from Health Social Welfare and NGOs of concerned talukas as its members.
The task has been assigned to these sub-committees to motivate the people of their respective talukas about the benefits of polio immunisation by organising walks, distributing informative literature and monitoring the process of vaccination.
