Survey to lay new railway line and rehabilitation and maintenance of old railway track between Mirpurkhas and Islamkot via Naokot and Mithi has been completed.
This was stated by Assistant Executive Engineer (AEN) Railway, here, Abdul Ghafoor Sanjrani while talking to newsmen here on Monday.
The survey was completed by the Survey and Construction Department of Pakistan Railway after selection of this track for transportation of material for mega project of Thar coal utilisation.
Ghafoor said after Thar coal discovery and processing of the project of Chinese power plant at Thar near Islamkot, the government selected the old metre guage track from Mirpurkhas to Naokot, which was 107 kilometres long and had a width of three feet and three inches.
There was a plan to change the track into one broad guage with a width of five feet and six inches and ensure its maintenance, he said.
Ghafoor further said a new broad guage railway track would be laid from Naokot to Islamkot, which would be 102 kilometres long.
There would be six railway stations on that section between Naokot to Islamkot including Mithi and Islamkot, he added.
It would be possible to run train with a speed of 100 kilometres per hour on that track on materialisation of that plan, he said.
Abdul Ghafoor Sanjrani further said the government also allocated a handsome amount for that plan which would be started soon.
