Brazil's Vanderlei de Lima will be presented with a medal named after the founder of the modern Olympics in recognition of his 'exceptional demonstration of fair play and Olympic values', the IOC said.
A former Irish priest pushed De Lima off the road when he was leading the Olympic marathon on Sunday, almost certainly costing him victory in the last event of the 16-day Games. The Brazilian finished third to take bronze.
The award is called the Pierre de Coubertin Medal.
The medal is awarded by the IOC in recognition of acts of sportsmanship at the Games. It was first awarded at the 1964Winter Games at Innsbruck to Italian bobsled driver Eugenio Monti.
