30 Aug, 2004

Commenting on the recent surface-to-surface missile test by India, Pakistan said on Sunday it does not favour an open-ended arms race in South Asia.
Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Khan reacting to the missile test by India said that Pakistan and India are committed to working towards strategic stability, adding that Pakistan would hold further talks on this subject in near future.
The spokesman said Pakistan believes that a strategic restraint is in the interest of both the nations.
He said Pakistan has noted that India has tested a surface-to-surface missile. In accordance with an existing understanding, the Indian government, through Pakistan's High Commission in Delhi, had given prior notification about this test.
The spokesman said in the recent past, Pakistan has also conducted a series of tests to validate technical parameters of Pakistan's own missile systems.
