Makhdoom's surrender

02 Sep, 2004

Nomination of Makhdoom Javaid Hashmi by the ARD as it candidate to oppose Shaukat Aziz in the house and stepping down of Makhdoom Amin Faheem in his favour has much more to it than what meets the eye.
Shaukat's success was a foregone conclusion and no opposition leader can take the risk of opposing him seriously.
BB cannot tolerate even the mention of any one from Sindh for the premier-ship, which she considers to be entirely her ancestral domain. Makhdoom Amin had been, therefore, ordered by BB to side step as heretofore.
Hashmi was the only natural candidate to which he unwittingly succumbed. If nothing else, his nomination could attract some attention and in the process embarrass the Speaker and the government.
Incidentally, does Makhdoom not rhyme with Khidmat, Khadim and Makhdoom the way it does for Ibadat, Abd and Ma'bood ? Ma'bood get His ibadat from the Abds. Where do Makdooms get their Khidmat from?
Who are their Khadims and who has bestowed upon them (Makhdooms) the right to be 'served' perpetually by them (Khadims), and that too in the 21st century in great violation of the laws on the Human Rights!
It is time they themselves voluntarily shed away such titles before the masses tore them down.
