Cantonment board hands over 17 areas to TMA

02 Sep, 2004

Cantonment Board Executive Officer, Hamid Haroon handed over the papers of 17 localities to Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) after 15 years because it failed to provide basic civic amenities to the extended area.
People of these localities were waging struggle for the exclusion of these areas from cantonment board. Because there was no facility of supply of drinking water, disposal system, street lights, roads, pavements and other necessities.
Residents of these localities alleged that Cantonment Board was providing all facilities to the cantonment and it did not spend even a single penny on extended areas, which were included 15 years ago in cantonment area.
They have no councillor, no Nazim and other representative who could redress their grievances.
They said that they were binding to act upon the rules and regulations of cantonment areas and payment of taxes but they were deprived of basic civic amenities.
Allah Nawaz Khan Durrani a leader of PML-N said that we fought for 15 years against this decision to get vacate these areas from Cantonment Board. At last we have achieved our objective. Now TMA would provide basic civic amenities in these areas.
