Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz wanted close co-ordination between local governments, MNAs and MPAs to make LG system more effective, said Chairman, National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) Daniyal Aziz on Thursday.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to evolve a mechanism to ensure clear and effective co-ordination between the concerned authorities, Daniyal told PTV.
NRB chairman had a meeting with the Prime Minister soon after taking oath of the office. Giving details, Daniyal said, the Prime Minister very closely monitored the local government system during his election campaigns in Tharparkar and Attock.
During the meeting, Shaukat Aziz appreciated the devolution of power plan and showed his keen interest in strengthening the system.
The PM instructed that weekly-meetings should be convened to quickly resolve the problems faced by local governments in smooth functioning of the system, Daniyal added.
He said, the Prime Minister wanted to streamline all matters pertaining to local governments by fully implementing devolution of power plan.
Responding to a question, he said, no proposal was under consideration to set graduation criteria in the elections of local governments. Though, he said, the set standard of qualification in the system was Matric, but each Nazim was more qualified than the set criteria.
