'Sugarcane crushing to be delayed'

President Kissan Welfare Council Mohammed Ayub Advocate has said that release of sugar in the open market would hit the sugarcane farmers.
Responding to the press reports regarding government's decision to release sugar in the open market, President Kissan Welfare Council said the release of sugar by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) could result into a delay in the next crushing season by a month.
In a press statement here on Thursday, he said that the government should also watch the interests of the sugarcane farmers while considering the interests of the consumers. He said the sugar mills would not only delay the crushing but also stop payments to the growers.
