A Congressional Affairs Committee (CAC) of the United States Custom Services has started investigation into manhandling of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan by US authorities at Dulles Airport in Washington last week.
The investigation was being carried out on the request of a US Senator from Maryland Barbara Mikulski, a PTI spokesperson said in a statement issued here on Thursday.
The US security agencies' personnel manhandled the PTI chief, who was also the Member of National Assembly (MNA), on his arrival at Washington from London to attend an Independence Day function last week.
The PTI spokesperson condemned the government for not raising the issue with the US authorities. "We have asked the government to raise the issue with the US authorities, but in vain," he said.
The spokesperson further said irrespective of Khan's political inclinations, he was a national hero and it was incumbent on the government to seek an explanation and apology from the US authorities for the maltreatment.
