04 Sep, 2004

Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Dr Hamida Khuhro has called the report from Secretary education for slow pace of implementation of De-centralising Elementary Education Programme (DEEP) and directed him to constitute two vigilance committees at District level throughout the province to check and monitor the attendance of teachers, discipline etc.
The minister referring to the setting up of vigilance committees at Hyderabad on her directive, called for such committees for colleges and technical institutions comprising EDO, DO Colleges, Senior Principals and noted educationists.
She said the committees for secondary educational institutes should comprise of EDOs, DOs Colleges, DOS Secondary and Higher Secondary, DO Elementary, DO Literacy and educationists with clean record.
These committees will be authorised to pay surprise visits to educational institutes to check punctuality of staff, cleanliness of premises, discipline, quality of education, time table, maintenance of record, condition of laboratories, libraries arid utilisation of funds.
These committees will submit report directly to Minister Education.
Besides, Dr Hamida Khuhro took serious notice of report received from Sindh Minister Planning and Development, over the slow pace of DEEP and asked the Secretary to submit the report at the earliest.
The Minister P&D in a letter had complained that important project components including civil works had been stagnating for unknown reasons.
Dr Khuhro said she was striving hard to address the alarming drop out of children after primary education and the slow/delayed implementation of DEEP which held a high importance in that regard, could not be ignored.
