US MIDDAY: profit-taking hits sugar

NYBOT raw sugar futures finished with modest losses in light volume on Friday as traders were content to take some profits ahead of the long holiday weekend, floor sources said.
The raw sugar market will shut on Monday for the US Labour Day holiday. Trading resumes on Tuesday.
October sugar ended 0.07 cent lower at 8.13 cents a lb, ranging from 8.10 to 8.21 cents. The front-month contract gained over 6 percent for the week. March closed down 0.07 at 8.72 cents and back months settled from 0.07 cent lower to unchanged.
Resistance in October sugar was pegged at the contract's high of 8.43 and then 8.50 cents, while support was seen at 8.08 and then at 8.00 cents. Final estimated futures volume was a meagre 23,223 lots, versus Thursday's official count of 35,886 lots.
Call volume was said to be at 3,087 lots and puts at 2,471 lots. Open interest gained 2,118 lots to 296,714 lots as of September 2.
