Egypt's main official wheat buyer said on Saturday he had bought 230,000 tonnes of US, French and Argentine wheat for October 1 to 15 shipment.
Mahmoud Abdel-Hamid, vice chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), told Reuters the purchases comprised:
-- 55,000 tonnes of US soft red winter wheat from Dreyfus at $139.99/tonne FOB
-- 60,000 tonnes of US soft white wheat from United Harvest at $144.28/tonne FOB
-- 55,000 tonnes of Argentine wheat from Glencore at $128.75/tonne FOB
-- 60,000 tonnes of French milling wheat from Lecureur at a price yet to be fixed. GASC said on Friday it was seeking 50,000 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes of US, French, Australian, Canadian and/or Argentine wheat for shipment October 1 to 15.
GASC, one of the world's largest importers of wheat, cancelled its previous tender announced on August 24, saying prices were not suitable.
