NWFP chief minister for expediting work on DERA

Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has directed acceleration of work on development activities initiated under Drought Effected Rehabilitation Area (DERA) programme in 14 districts of the province.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding DERA programme here at Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Besides secretaries of works and services, irrigation, planning and development, chief engineer, works and project co-ordinator, DERA were also present on the occasion.
A detailed briefing was given to the chief minister on the on-going
development schemes under DERA programme. The total estimate of the project is Rs 1,245.417 million, the chief minister was told that construction work on 723 uplift schemes is in full swing which include 422 potable water schemes, 260 irrigation, 4 dams and 37 roads.
The chief minister was informed that in Bannu district there are 93 water schemes which will cost Rs 191 million and so far Rs 188 million have been spent on these schemes.
Similarly, in Chitral district work on four irrigation schemes and one water scheme is of Rs 83 million and in Dera Ismail Khan district 28 schemes worth Rs 110 million have been initiated which include three irrigation schemes, 23 water schemes and two roads.
Moreover, in Dir Upper work on 26 schemes has been initiated costing Rs 101 million while in Karak district 38 uplift schemes are near completion. In Kohistan district 31 irrigation and 55 water schemes which will cost Rs 2 crore and 76 lakh.
The chief minister on the occasion directed that hurdles in way of these projects in Kohistan district should be removed and ensures timely utilisation of funds.
The chief minister was further informed that construction work on 99 schemes in Lakki Marwat, 35 schemes in Abbottabad, 31 schemes in Kohat, 48 schemes in Hangu, 46 schemes in Buner district, 71 schemes in Dir Lower and 23 schemes in Haripur are in full swing and it will be completed in stipulated time.
The chief minister on the occasion stressed that these projects should be completed within time and those officials who were found using delaying tactics will be punished.
He said that the people would feel visible change after the completion of these projects.
