World seminar on medicinal plants opens on September 7

An international symposium on medicinal plants, organised by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, to be participated by eminent scientists from home and abroad, begins here tomorrow (Tuesday).
The Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Sikandar Hayat Bosan will inaugurate the three-day seminar at National Agricultural Research Centre, Chak Shehzad at 9.30 am, a press release said here on Sunday.
The participants would discuss various issues relating to sustainable utilisation, conservation of ethno-botanical resources, indigenous knowledge and intellectual property rights, the press release said.
The seminar has been organised keeping in mind the vast knowledge and traditional use of medicinal plants. The participants would share the information, experiences and the latest studies in ethno-botany, chemistry and pharmacology.
This symposium would also discuss the ways to save and manage the medicinal flora of the region.
The people were going back in time for their treatment through the natural plant resource of inexpensive drugs, and without harmful side effects.
