Lawyers to observe protest day on September 7

Lawyer's community is observing 'protest day' on Tuesday, September 07 in protest against the elevation of judges in the Supreme Court in violation of merit.
The joint action committee (JAC) of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), while giving this call has asked the lawyers to pass resolutions against the elevation of judges, by holding protest meetings and wearing black strip.
Chairman executive committee PBC Kazim Khan has said that the lawyers' community always waged struggle for strengthening of democratic institutions in the country.
He said that the government has elevated the judges in the Supreme Court in violation of merit prescribed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in its decision pertaining to the appointment of the judges in the higher courts.
He said the government is bent upon to curtail the powers of the bars. He said that the lawyers would not accept any amendment in Legal Practitioner Act. He called upon the lawyers to join the protest on Tuesday, to express their resentment against elevation of judges in the Supreme Court.
