Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Salahuddin Haider has said that the freedom of the press contributes towards the development of the country.
He said while speaking as chief guest at a seminar pertaining to the mass communication.
The moot was held under the auspices of the Paish Raft Forum at the Arts Council of Pakistan here, says a statement on Monday.
A former chairman of Karachi University's Department of Mass Communication, Professor Nisar Ahmed Zuberi, also spoke on the occasion.
Salahuddin Haider said that the newspapers in Pakistan are full of the statements of the opposition parties and stressed that the government point of view should also be accommodated in the press. He also spoke of the role of the journalists towards the freedom of the press.
The adviser also referred to the headway that has been made by the newspapers in India and pointed out that the circulation of newspapers there was over two million.
Professor Nisar Ahmed Zuberi was of the view that those students who are performing well in the newspapers as well as TV channels should also be appreciated.
Dr Sajid Hussain, Mubasshir Mir, Hasan Zaheer, Nazeer Mateen and Syeda Naqvi also spoke on the occasion.
