Strength of federal Cabinet challenged

08 Sep, 2004

A member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHC), while challenging the strength of the Federal cabinet, has prayed to the court to declare it as unconstitutional, unfair and misuse of authority.
He also prayed to the court to direct the respondent government to induct only five ministers and two state ministers in the Federal cabinet.
Petitioner M.D. Tahir contended that people of Pakistan were facing problems, owing to shortage of judges in the higher courts, but the respondent government, instead of increasing the number of judges, was decreasing their strength.
On the other hand, the respondent government had inducted a large number of legislators in the cabinet, he said.
He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondent to confirm those two judges of the Lahore High Court who were not confirmed recently.
