Lawyers on Tuesday observed the black day as a protest against the promotion of two junior judges to Supreme Court, overriding seniority list and merit.
All the lawyers wore black armbands and hoisted black flags atop of district bar rooms and High Court bar room following call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).
"We are struggling against unlawful acts of present government which had attempted to defame judiciary by promoting two junior judges as judges of Supreme Court, neglecting the seniority list and merit,' said Moulvi Sultan Alam, President of High Court Bar, Multan.
"Government wants to control lawyers and judges taking such steps like empowering High Courts to cancel, issue, or suspend licences of practising lawyers and giving unjust and out of turn promotions to some judges," said Mian Abbas Ahmed, former Vice Chairman, of PBC.
