Proposal for District Mohtasibs under study

The visiting Balochistan Local Government Minister Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Sherwani, leading a 13-member delegation of Balochistan Local Government Commission was briefed about the overall performance of Sindh Local Government Department at a briefing by Mir Nasir Abbas, Director General Local Government Commission here on Wednesday.
The Balochistan Local Government Minister was informed that Sindh Local Government Commission was set up in July 2002 and since then it received 689 complaints against UC Nazims and other concerned and out of them 295 complaints were redressed while action on 394 complaints was in process.
He said most complaints were received from Karachi and half of them have been disposed.
He told in order to widen the scope of Commission, a proposal of District Mohtasibs appointment was under consideration. This step would help in having an effective monitoring of Local government system at local levels and complaints thereof could be redressed on the spot.
The Balochistan Minister expressed satisfaction over the performance of Sindh Commission and observed that local government system in Sindh was working better than other provinces and suggested that powers under local government should rest with the provinces because it was a local system for whose success there was need for effective liaison between the provinces.
Besides the delegation members, also present in the briefing were Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Muhammad Saleem Khan, Additional Secretary Ghulam Arif, four members of the Sindh Local Government Commission and other officials.
