The Punjab government has again asked the NWFP to lift about 100,000 tonnes of wheat allocated for the province after submitting details of the flour mills, sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday.
Punjab has written a letter to the federal government to take up the issue with the government of NWFP for providing details of the flour mills operating in the province.
Sources said that the summary has been moved to the Cabinet secretary, who will discuss the issue with the NWFP chief secretary and food and agriculture secretary.
The Punjab Food Department has conveyed to Sarhad Flour Mills Association that they can lift allocated 100,000 tonnes of the commodity from godowns located in Lahore or Sukkur after submitting complete details of the mills for issuance of permits to the millers.
About two weeks back, NWFP has refused to accept 100,000 tonnes wheat, as Sarhad Floor Mills Association said that Punjab should completely lift inter-provincial ban on the commodity.
The sources said that delivery of wheat to NWFP is being made under Punjab's temporary relaxation of ban, however, floor mill-owners in the Frontier province have been demanding complete lifting of ban on commodity's transportation.
On the intervention of the then prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the federal government had directed the Punjab and Passco on July 29 to release a total of 200,000 tonnes of wheat to the NWFP to end flour crisis.
