Regular inspections of roads and flyovers stressed

Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ibad has emphasised the need of early and quality reappearance of Liaquatabad Flyover.
He also stressed on ensuring regular inspections and maintenance of all the roads, flyovers, bridges and underpasses of the city.
He also directed the concerned authority for disciplinary action against those who were found responsible for appearing cracks/ditches in the Liaquatabad Flyover.
He further called for keeping the alternate route open and clear for ensuring smooth flow of traffic.
He released these directions, while chairing a meeting at Governor House to review the pace and quality of ongoing road and flyover repairing works on Thursday.
EDO, Works and Services, Shoaib Siddiqui informed the meeting that repairing work of Liaquatabad Flyover had been started on last Wednesday and would be completed within three weeks.
He pointed out that after the early detection of tearing in the flyover by the inspection team, it was closed down for traffic. In response, the governor directed him to also conduct inspection of the remaining part of the flyover.
The EDO, besides briefing on the flyover and roads also briefed the meeting on the pedestrian bridges installed in the city. Highlighting the condition of these pedestrian bridges, he mentioned that bridges at Malir, Kala Board, Nazimabad No 7, Chowrangi, M.A. Jinnah Road, Empress Market, Nishtar Road and Landhi needed repairing. So, the department initiated the repairing work which was still continue on some of them, while the work had been completed on four of them.
He said that out of the total 21 pedestrian bridges in the city, the rest of them were in perfect condition.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of ongoing shifting process of interbus terminals in the city. In this regard the meeting was informed that the first inter-city bus terminal would become functional at Site from 24 September, 2004.
The others who were also present in the meeting were Advisor to Chief Minister, Mumtaz Hameed, Acting Chief Secretary, Ghulam Sarwar Khero, Principal Secretary, Brigadier Akhtar Zamin (Retd), City Nazim Naimtaullah Khan, CCPO, Tariq Jamil and other officials.
