Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has congratulated Editor, "The Nation", Arif Nizami for his election as President of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE).
The chief minister expressed the hope that the CPNE under leadership of Arif Nizami would continue to promote and uphold journalistic values and code of ethics in letter and spirit.
In his message, Pervaiz Elahi also extended felicitations to the newly-elected office-bearers of the CPNE including Senior Vice-President Zia Shahid, Vice-President (Punjab) Khushnood Ali Khan, Vice- President (Sindh) Shaheen Qureshi, Vice-President (NWFP) Sufaid Shah, Vice-President (Balochistan) Siddique Baloch, Secretary General Dr Jabbar Khattak, Joint-Secretary Abdul Rasheed and Finance Secretary Mehtab Khan.
The chief minister observed that the newly elected body of CPNE would perform its professional duties in a befitting manner and would live up to the expectations of the masses.
He said that the provincial government believes in complete freedom of press and is perusing the policy of developing cordial relations with the press.
He said that the government would welcome the positive and constructive criticism by the press and seek guidance from writers and intellectuals as well.
