Retired professor gunned down in Quetta

A former teacher of the University of Balochistan, Professor Syed Atiqul Hassan Naqvi, was shot dead by unknown motorcyclists here on Friday.
According to details, Professor Naqvi was waiting for a bus in front of Gulistan Public School, Sariab Road.
Two motor cyclists appeared on the scene and started firing from close range. Professor Atiq sustained serious wounds and died on the spot. The motorcyclists disappeared after killing him.
His body was removed to Civil Hospital.
A large number of people gathered in Civil Hospital. They raised anti-government slogans. Noted Shia leaders Yaqub Ali Tawasalli, Mehdi Najafi and others spoke with the Home Secretary and demanded that senior officers should come to the hospital and hold talks with them.
They warned that if their demands were not met, they would not remove the body of Professor Atiq. Home Secretary assured that their demands would be looked into. Police cordoned off the area and tightened security.
Shops were closed immediately in Marriabad locality. Tension prevailed in the city.
It may be recalled that in a similar firing incident some two years back Professor Atiq Naqvi was injured and his son Arshad Naqvi was killed.
