Punjab Government will probe affairs of private housing schemes like Bahria town etc in the province and inform Punjab Assembly within one week.
Chairman Rai Ijaz gave this ruling on a point of order raised by Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan in Punjab Assembly on Friday.
Aftab feared that a new financial scandal is in the offing in which people would lose billions of rupees.
Amount minted through the property scam will be many times more than co-operative and finance corporations, he said, adding, same mafia is involved here which plundered people's money in previous two scams.
Rana Aftab said that most of the housing schemes have been launched without acquiring the required land and money is being collected to misguide public through lucrative advertisements.
The chairman declared it a matter of urgent need to prevent loss of public money and urged the members and citizens to inform the government about such irregularities by furnishing any proof or clue in this regard.
Law minister Raja Basharat assured of compliance with the chair's ruling within the stipulated time.
He said government is making amendments in Land Acquisition Act to empower the Board of Revenue (BoR) deal with the affairs of housing schemes to ensure transparency and to protect public interest. Earlier such powers rested with the districts, he added.
"We will restrict those dealing with housing schemes to offer only that land to public which they have acquired and on which all legal requirements would be complete. This will ensure protection of buyers rights," the Law Minister assured on floor of the house.
He said that co-operation has also been sought from District Governments and Cantonment Boards to control the menace.
However, he urged the buyers to get verified the authenticity of the housing schemes in which they would be investing money.
About the application forms and files of plots being purchased on exorbitantly high prices, the minister said that it is a private matter and the people should avoid such activity, adding, government cannot stop them in this regard.
