Punjab government would introduce incinerator system in all public sector hospitals of the province so as to dispose off hospital waste properly, while an incinerator at Children Hospital has been made operational.
Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed said this while addressing a departmental meeting held to review the arrangements regarding disposal of hospital waste here Saturday.
The Minister said that incinerator at Children Hospital has been installed, as a first phase, which would be sufficient for the disposal of waste of all the public sector hospitals in Lahore. He said that private sector hospitals would be encouraged, to install incinerators.
According to him, the government has approved the new designs of DHQs and THQs under which incinerator would be installed according to the requirements of the hospitals. Due to lack of proper arrangements in disposal of hospital waste, infectious diseases, kidney failure, heart problems, hepatitis B and C, cancer and other fatal diseases have been spread out.
He directed the health department authorities to make compulsory for the emergency wards and operation theatres staff to wear disposable gloves so that chances of infection may be reduced.
