Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday said that audit plays a very important role in providing good governance.
He was talking to the Auditor General of Pakistan Younus Khan, who met him at the Prime Minister House.
The prime minister said the government is currently focusing on better governance through a system of proper checks and balances in all the matters, especially the financial one.
He said "Fiscal discipline" is the key to improve governance.
The prime minister underscored the importance of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and complimented it for accelerating the pace of work assigned to it and for improving the quality of audit.
The auditor general informed the prime minister that he is working hard to improve the overall system of audit and the major thrust is on the improvement of managerial aspect of governance.
