Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has demanded of the government to start releasing wheat from the stocks of Punjab Food Department to flour mills so as to check increasing prices of wheat in the open market.
A high-level delegation of PFMA led by Khaleeq Arshad, chairman of the association, met Punjab Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and briefed him about the wheat situation.
Khaleeq told the minister that wheat prices in the country have increased by at least Rs 10 per maund during last seven days.
Due to increase in wheat flour prices, it would be difficult for flour mills owners to maintain wheat flour prices on previous levels.
He said that the holy month of Ramazan is approaching, hence, the government must provide wheat to flour mills so prices of wheat flour in the open market can be maintained at reasonable level.
