Federal Industries and Production Minister Jehangir Tareen has set up a committee headed by the Minfal secretary to lay down procedure for import of 100,000 tonnes of urea for Rabi crops by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP). The committee comprises all the manufacturers of urea, representatives of the Ministry of Industries and Production and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal).
It has been asked to formulate modalities, including tendering procedure, opening of L/C, arrangement of funds, distribution and marketing of the imported urea and all allied matters.
The decision was taken in a meeting held here on Tuesday with Federal Industries and Production Minister Jehangir Tareen in the chair to discuss the modalities for import of urea fertiliser.
The minister said due to more demand for urea in Rabi season, 100,000 tonnes of urea would be imported initially, and it is imperative that transparent modalities for import of urea may be finalised.
It was also decided that the TCP will import urea and Minfal was asked to submit a summary to the ECC of the Cabinet immediately in this regard for approval.
