A notorious dacoit Muhammad Siddique alias Sohna, ringleader of 'Sandeela gang', was killed in an encounter with police in Eisanwala forests (Mehmood Kot). However other dacoits managed to escape with their injured accomplice. The encounter continued for five hours.
"We have killed Siddique alias Sohna, godfather of Sandeela gang, who was involved in 18 heinous crimes and was declared proclaimed offender. However, no dacoit could be arrested as they managed to escape," Muzaffargarh DPO Ahsan Mehboob told newsmen on Monday.
He said that Sandeela gang had shot dead a motorcyclist in Kot Adu a few days ago on resistance. An informer tipped the police that the gang had taken refuge in Eisanwala forest.
Heavy police contingent encircled the forest. Upon this, the dacoits opened fire at the police party. In retaliation police fired at Siddique alias Sohna and his accomplices and injured them. However, Sohna did not survive.
DPO said that police had arrested the Naseer alias Naseera who was actual godfather of Sandeela gang. Then Siddique alias Sohna was appointed as acting chief of the gang.
People of the area heaved a sigh of relief and they danced on his body and distributed sweetmeat among the people because he was a symbol of terror in the area.
