Taiwan stocks ended more than one percent lower on Friday as investors unloaded big electronics shares like Powerchip, with fresh accounting irregularities casting a shadow over market sentiment.
The TAIEX share index was down a provisional 1.09 percent, before finally ending with a loss of 72.66 points, or 1.23 percent, at 5,818.39, erasing the last session's advance. Analysts said Summit Computer Technology CO's admission to inflating revenue figures, which followed probes into irregularities at ProComm Informatics Ltd and Infodisc Technology Co Ltd, raised fears of more accounting woes at other listed companies.
The gloomy mood infected technology heavyweights that had been resilient for most of the week.
Taiwan's largest memory chipmaker, Powerchip Semiconductor Corp, fell 2.95 percent in heavy trade despite rising spot prices for its products.
