World Bank approves up to $180 million for Bosnia

18 Sep, 2004

The World Bank on Thursday approved a new assistance strategy for Bosnia that would give it between $100 million and $180 million over three years and help it move from aid dependency after a 1992-95 war.
It said the new 2005-2007 program would focus on improving public finance and strengthening institutions, promoting private sector-led growth, and investments in infrastructure.
"The main challenge for further social and economic development and poverty reduction in the coming three years will be the transition from a largely aid-dependent economy to one that is dynamic and self-sustaining," the bank said in a statement.
