Zardari allowed to walk in PIMS premises

19 Sep, 2004

Court has allowed Asif Ali Zardari for walk in the premises of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and has turned downed the argument of the prosecution regarding the security measures.
The judge of the Accountability Court No. 3 Muhammad Aslam Khan was hearing the application of former senator and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari in which he sought permission for walk in the premises of the PIMS, here on Saturday.
While giving argument against the application the prosecution said that due to security problems government would not allow Zardari for walk in the PIMS.
Lawyer of Asif Zardari, Dr Baber Awan in his argument rejected the prosecution plea and said that there is no security problem in the PIMS as there is already a sufficient security system in the hospital.
Apprising the learned judge about the location of the hospital, he said that the lawns on which Zardari wants to walk are on backside where common man have no access. Court should allow Zardari for walk in the hospital premises.
The court has allowed Asif Zardari, husband of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, for walk.
It may recall that PIMS was declared as sub-jail, where Asif Zardari was detained and the government not allowed him to walk on the lawns of the hospital.
Zardari is in detention from past more than eight years under different references of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Although the decisions of the accountability courts were set aside by higher judiciary and bail was awarded in different cases to Zardari, but he is still behind the bars.
