A two-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday dismissed bail petition of Syed Askari Naqvi, deposit in-charge of United Bank Limited in an embezzlement case and directed FIA to frame charge-sheet against him within two weeks for trial.
The apex court comprising Justice Hamid Ali Mirza and Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan directed the counsel of the accused to move bail application in the trial court after the submission of challan by FIA.
Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan Nasir Saeed Sheikh Advocate appeared before the court on behalf of the respondents.
Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi Advocate represented the petitioner, Syed Askari Naqvi.
According to case filed against the accused, Askari Naqvi was found involved in embezzlement of millions of rupees as deposit in-charge from dormant account through used cheques and other tactics as investigation report and statements of other officers.
The accused served in two branches of the UBL as deposit in-charge located at School Road, Islamabad and in the premises of Secretariat.
It may be recalled here that the accused was arrested in January, 2004 by FIA on the complaint of the said Bank.
