KCA briefed about government steps to simplify taxation system

The Commissioner of Income Tax, Special Zone, Corporate Region, Karachi, Irfan Nadeem, has said the government is taking all necessary steps to simplify the taxation system with a view to providing maximum relief to the taxpayers.
Iran Nadeem was replying to the questions, raised by Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) Chairman Iqbal Umar in his welcome address on Thursday.
He said that all refund cases were being examined on merit basis and efforts of the Income Tax Department had been diverted to ensure prompt payment to the assesses.
He also informed the KCA members that the present government was very keen to improve the efficiency of the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) and its related departments, provide all necessary facilities to the taxpayers and ensure prompt payment against their refund claims.
Highlighting the objectives of the Income Tax Department, the Commissioner of Income Tax said that all efforts were being made to restore the confidence of the taxpayer by accepting their declared version in respect of availing of opportunity of self-assessment scheme and create friendly environment between the taxpayers and the tax collectors.
Irfan Nadeem further said that a Tax Facilitation Centre had been established on the fifth floor of Income Tax building to solve their problems on the spot within.
As regards delay in refund claims, the Commissioner of Income Tax said that some time incomplete information in challan caused delay in payment of refund claims.
He advised the assesses to submit their refund claims by completing the challan in all respect, which would ensure prompt payment to them.
Concluding, the Commissioner of Income Tax thanked the KCA Chairman for inviting him to the association and providing him an opportunity to discuss the important issues relating to income tax and enlighten the KCA board of directors and senior members of the trade about the policies being formulated by the CBR to resolve the problems of the taxpayers.
Earlier welcoming the Income Tax Commissioner, KCA Chairman Iqbal Umer highlighted the role of the KCA in regulating the marketing of raw cotton.
Describing Irfan Nadeem, as a very competent officer in the CBR, the KCA Chairman expressed the hope that he would extend his help and assistance to the business community, especially the cotton trade and resolve the problems relating to income tax.
Irfan Nadeem has recently been posted at Karachi after successfully completing the task assigned by the CBR to increase the tax revenue from Lahore region.-PR
