A senior police officer among three policemen killed in firing exchange with unidentified gunmen here on Saturday. According to Deputy Inspector General Pervez Rafi Bhatti, the gunmen ambushed the vehicle of Deputy Superintendent Police Nisar Kazmi on General Road of Quetta, killing him and injuring two policemen, who shifted to hospital.
He said two of the attackers were injured but they succeeded to escape, adding police were chasing them and hoped to arrest the assailants very soon.
Bhatti linked the incident with sectarian violence and said slain Kazmi was investigating the same cases. No one has claimed responsibility of the attack.
The police produced a senior member of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi group in court earlier this month, who had confessed attacks on religious processions.
