27 Sep, 2004

Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Chairman, (Federal Minister) HEC has informed Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUIT), Peshawar that they do not meet the minimum criteria laid down by the cabinet for grant of charter.
According to a press note, as such the charter given to them would be cancelled on February 26, 2007 as already agreed to by the cabinet and reiterated again at the meeting of the chancellors committee presided over by the President and the Prime Minister, if they do not remove their deficiencies.
The inspection committee of the HEC ascertained the facilities of academic, financial and physical infrastructure available with the university in relation to the criteria, mandatory for each university.
It has been observed that the university is deficient in high quality faculty members, finances, appropriate land and does not seem viable for conduct of conventional classrooms, whereas is offering degree programmes through distance mode of education far and wide in the country.
Distance education out side the province of NWFP is not permissible under rules. So the university has been warned to remove its deficiencies within the set period to avoid cancellation of its charter.
